Beauty or Lady Death?

Description

This is my entry for the Make Ugly Contest, by The Truth.

I'm not sure what Truth best fits the picture, mainly because it basically tells the story itself.

I've seen magazine pictures, billboards or tv commercials that show images of a beautiful woman, hanging out with her friends and smoking a cigarette, as if nothing could happen to her. I went to a kind of Drug-Free special hearing in the school assembly, and I learned that the effects of smoking not only causes damages to you on the inside, but outside as well.

In this case, causing someone who's physical appearances changes depending on how long that person smoked. I don't smoke and people confuse me as a teenage! If anybody saw a smoker with facial changes, they'd confuse the smoker as a different age.

I wanted to draw a picture that represents the effects of smoking from different types of cigarettes. I based the old woman's looks on the Queen (From Snow White) in her witch form, and Mother Gothel (From Disney's Tangled) as an old lady. It fits the bill basically, because older women tend to make themselves look beautiful, and I figured that a beautiful woman smoking a cigarette would be like a spider attracting a fly to it's web, hence the "Come on and try it" pose (My own pose btw!).

I drew a hooded cloak to represent the robe Death wears, along with a skull on her belt, the theme of Death as well. As for the colors, I've learned in Home Ec. one time that Red is used in different packages from food to cigarettes because it acts like a subliminal message to the paying customers. And if you've noticed, there's a lot of red on some packaging.

I also drew the smoke swirls in the form of hands, because, to me, they act like the Hands of Death, silently reaching out to the smokers, or people around them, and silently chokes the victims to a slow death, leaving behind cancers, diseases and chaos to you and your body.

That's basically the story behind the picture, but I hope all of you got the message!

Smoking not only ruins lives, they ruin the future of today's generations.

EDIT: ....Well....Guess I lost....AGAIN....Now if you'll all excuse me, I'm gonna go ahead and be the lowliest no talented piece of work on the web....As usual....!!!!!!!!!!

This definitely gets the message across--I'm an ex-smoker myself, so I support the message.

I love, love, love the way you layered this together--tell me how you did that! The patterns in the "haze" compliment the shape of the drawing so well. Your hands look great, the lady's and the smoke's--I'm jealous since I really suck at hands. I like the design of her dress; sexy yet foreboding. As always, I admire your line quality, since I'm constantly having to go in behind myself in GIMP and clean things up. You seem to have a natural gift for line drawing and consistency. The skull and crossbones in the cigarette smoke is a wonderful touch and it is so much a part of the smoke that it looks totally natural and meant to be there. I think this is one of your best pieces, personally. <img src="e.deviantart.net/emoticons/s/s…" width="15" height="15" alt=":)" data-embed-type="emoticon" data-embed-id="391" title=":) (Smile)"/>
